Where to stay in Gaeta by the sea? For a private beach, stay at Grand Hotel Il Ninfeo in the bay of San Vito or at Aeneas’ Landing Resort on the Arenauta coast. A few steps from Serapo beach are the B&Bs Sapore di Mare, Sapore di Mare 2, Sapore di Mare nel Blu and Sapore di Mare Serapo, with Il Bacio del Sole and Sapore di Mare al Corso a little further back. For views over the gulf there are AltaMarea in medieval Gaeta and The Sorabellas in the old borgo, while Casetta Velia faces the Lungomare Caboto seafront.
Gaeta sits on a promontory between Rome and Naples and has two sea fronts: Serapo, the long sandy beach on the open sea, and the gulf side, with the Lungomare Caboto promenade, the old borgo and the medieval quarter on the tip. West of town the Via Flacca coast road runs towards Sperlonga, past San Vito and Arenauta.

Serapo: the long sandy beach, on foot from your B&B
Serapo is about a kilometre and a half of fine sand, with a gently sloping seabed, beach clubs and free stretches, closed off at one end by Monte Orlando. It suits travellers who want to walk to the beach; our Serapo beach guide marks it as good for families and couples.
Sapore di Mare is a small local chain of B&Bs; four of them are near the beach, on Via Rimini, Via Bologna and Via Nino Bixio. Drivers should look at Sapore di Mare and Sapore di Mare Serapo, with a reserved parking space for every room. Il Bacio del Sole and Sapore di Mare al Corso are closer to the town centre, which Il Bacio del Sole puts 300 metres away.

Medieval Gaeta and Lungomare Caboto: views over the gulf
On the gulf side you sleep near the Lungomare Caboto, in the old borgo or in the medieval quarter: the view over the water and the old town on foot, with Serapo for beach days. It suits travellers without a car.
AltaMarea has two studios, Babordo and Tribordo, sharing a terrace that looks over the gulf and the Tempio di San Francesco. The Sorabellas has three studios, one per floor, all with a balcony; only «La Terrazza del Mare», for two guests, has the 25 m² private terrace with a gulf view. For Casetta Velia, in Piazza Mazzoccolo, ask the host about beds and check-in.
Via dell’Indipendenza, the historic street of the borgo, has small shops, bars and restaurants; towards the tip are the lanes and churches of the historic centre. San Vito and Arenauta: hotels with their own beach
Out of town, on the Via Flacca towards Sperlonga, are the two properties with a private beach, for guests who want room, sunbed and restaurant in one place.
At Grand Hotel Il Ninfeo a flowering garden runs down from the Via Flacca to a private beach of golden sand, and the grounds hold the remains of a Roman seaside villa from the 1st century BC. The superior double rooms facing the sea have a balcony or a terrace, and the 160-seat restaurant looks onto the beach. The hotel says the beach also suits children.
Aeneas’ Landing Resort states direct access to the sea from every part of the resort, and guests get a reserved beach spot with umbrella and sunbeds for their whole stay. There is a freshwater pool overlooking the gulf. The suites, junior suites and superior rooms have sea views; standard rooms sit in the greenery, with no TV. The resort suggests the two-bedroom Suite Cajeta for families or groups.
