The attraction

What makes it special

Montagna Spaccata is a dramatic rock fissure on Monte Orlando, associated in local tradition with the death of Christ. The Santuario della Santissima Trinità stands beside it.

What to see

The sacred route includes the Chapel of the Crucifix, the stone resting place associated with Saint Philip Neri and the rock imprint known as the Hand of the Turk. Read the article on local legends and spirituality for the story behind these places.

The nearby Grotta del Turco is a sea cave reached by a stairway. Follow the access limits indicated by the sanctuary.

Opening hours and admission

Consult the opening hours guide before visiting. The two routes have separate schedules and close on Mondays; the church follows its own timetable. Admission is by voluntary donation.

Getting there and parking

From Lungomare Caboto, take Via Firenze and Via Munazio Planco towards the sanctuary, within the Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park. The small nearby car park has limited space; compare alternatives in the parking guide (in Italian).

Planning your visit

Wear shoes suitable for steps and allow time for the climb back. The sanctuary notes access difficulties for visitors with reduced mobility. For a longer outing, explore the Monte Orlando walking routes (in Italian) and the Mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus, subject to their own access conditions.
