In Gaeta, every family cherishes something you won’t find in history books: a grandfather’s tale about the harbour, a long-forgotten artisan workshop, a festival celebrated differently in the past, a dialect word, a black-and-white photograph tucked away in a drawer. These are fragments of the city’s history, and they deserve to be preserved.
This is why «Gaeta si racconta» was created—the city’s digital archive: a free space, open to everyone, where anyone who knows Gaeta, individuals and associations alike, can share what they know under their own name. The section launches on 1 October 2026: we are collecting the first stories starting today.
Why an archive
Much of what makes Gaeta unique is not written down anywhere: it lives in memories, family recipe notebooks, photo albums, and everyday speech. A digital archive safeguards this heritage and makes it accessible to all: to the local community, to young people curious about how their city used to be, and to visitors wishing to truly understand it.
ScopriGaeta provides its platform completely free of charge. It is neither a contest nor an advertisement: it is the city’s archive, open to anyone who wishes to explore it.
What you can share with us
- Stories and memories: what a neighbourhood was like, the harbour, a special day.
- Traditions, festivals, and rituals: how they were prepared and what has changed.
- Dialect: words, sayings, and local nicknames, along with their meanings.
- Lost trades and places: workshops, shipyards, cinemas, traditional taverns.
- Family recipes, along with the story of who used to prepare them.
- Vintage photos, including where, roughly when, and who is pictured.
You don’t need to be an expert writer: simply write as you would speak. What you know is what truly matters, not how you phrase it.
How it works
- Send us your story using the form below: the text, where it comes from, a few photos if you have them, and how you would like to be credited.
- We review it and polish the phrasing, without ever altering its meaning. If anything is unclear, we will get in touch.
- We publish it under your name, or that of your association, and send you the direct link.
Credited to you
- At the top of each story is the contributor’s name, along with a link to your website or social page if you wish.
- Photos include their credit, for example “Photo: Rossi family archive”.
- The story remains yours, and you can ask us to remove it at any time. Email addresses and phone numbers are never published.
Associations, schools, and parishes
Those who conduct historical research, manage an archive, organise a local festival, or teach young people the city’s history already hold valuable material. Here you can publish it under your name and find it all collected in one place. If you have a large amount of material, write to us at info@scoprigaeta.it: we will organise it together.
What comes next
Starting 1 October, the section will go live with the first collection of stories, organised by topic. Afterwards, anyone will be able to comment beneath each story, photo, or video: adding a personal memory, clarifying a detail, or correcting a date. This is how a shared archive grows, one piece at a time.

Can I submit on behalf of an association?
Yes. In the form, select “Signed by an association or group”: your name will appear, along with a link to your website if provided.
Can I submit just a photo?
Yes, along with a few lines describing what is shown: where, roughly when, and who is pictured.
Do you publish everything you receive?
We review everything before publishing. We do not publish commercial advertising, polemics, or content involving private individuals without their consent.
Can I request to have my story removed?
Yes, at any time: simply write to info@scoprigaeta.it and we will take it down.
