Warning: Pay attention to the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) in the historic center of Gaeta: parking along the seafront promenade before the active checkpoints will help you avoid fines.

2.2km on foot there's Porta Domnica

From the parking area, carefully cross the seafront and head into the characteristic alleyways, walking uphill toward the inner town for about 5 minutes.

Enea's Tip

As you walk toward the gate, look up to admire the spontaneous architecture of Gaeta's alleyways, featuring small connecting arches between the houses.

Stop 2

Porta Domnica

Porta Domnica was an ancient entrance to the Castrum of Gaeta, set in the circuit of walls that began to take shape under the rule of the hypatus Docibilis I (867-906). Standing at the very tip of the isthmus, it guarded a strategic, defensive site so hard to reach that...

Reach Porta Domnica, one of the historic remnants of Gaeta's ancient fortifications. This medieval passage tells centuries of history and defensive heritage. The site is freely accessible at any time of day.
