How to vote for the Castello di Gaeta
- Online, until 15 December 2026: open the «Castello Angioino di Gaeta» page on the FAI website and click «Vota con 1 clic».
- At the Castello, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October: during the Giornate FAI d’Autunno, you can vote on site during your visit (10-13 and 15-18, voluntary donation).
Why your vote matters
In the 2026 edition, places that reach at least 3,000 votes can participate in the call for bids that will select the projects to be funded with Intesa Sanpaolo resources in 2027. The top three receive 70,000, 60,000, and 50,000 euros. As of 8 October, the Castello di Gaeta is in 291st place with 274 votes: reaching 3,000 is a long journey, but it only takes a few seconds from each of us.
Who proposed the nomination
The nomination was submitted by the committee «Un cuore per il Castello di Gaeta – Recuperare. Aprire. Raccontare.», together with the Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale. The Castello is state property and since 1995 has been granted to the University for free and perpetual use for higher education, research, and culture. The goal is to restore areas not yet accessible to visitors and open increasingly larger spaces to the public.
The Castello Angioino in brief
It has towered over Gaeta Medievale (the historic medieval quarter) for nearly eight centuries. From the 13th century until 1990, it served as a military fortress, penal colony, and finally a military prison; today it can be visited along routes designed for physical, cognitive, and sensory accessibility. It is the census of cherished Italian places not to be forgotten, organized by the FAI together with Intesa Sanpaolo. The 2026 edition is the thirteenth: it began on 12 May and closes on 15 December 2026. Anyone can nominate a place and vote for it.
