Torrione Francese
What makes it special
The Torrione Francese stands in a highly panoramic spot at the foot of the Angevin Castle, in an area that was once protected by a moat. Part of Gaeta’s defensive system together with the nearby Caserma Cialdini, the tower is now at the centre of an ambitious restoration plan by the Italian State Property Agency (Agenzia del Demanio) and the Municipality, which aim to turn it into an exhibition and hospitality venue. Although it offers one of the most striking views along the coast, the site is currently closed to the public for safety and conservation reasons.
