What makes it special
The French Keep stands in a highly panoramic position at the foot of the Angevin Castle, in an area that was formerly defended by a moat. An integral part of Gaeta’s defense system along with the nearby Cialdini Barracks, the keep is now the focus of an ambitious recovery plan by the Agenzia del Demanio and the municipality to transform it into an exhibition and receptive space. Despite being one of the most striking views of the coastline, the site is currently inaccessible to the public for security and conservation reasons.
