Former Church of St. Jude Thaddeus
What makes it special
Set along a narrow lane leading from Monte Orlando to medieval Gaeta, this small neo-Gothic church was originally dedicated to Saint Onuphrius (Sant’Onofrio), with records of it dating back to 1509. Damaged during the city’s many sieges, it was extensively restored in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon under the direction of the army engineer officer Giacomo Guarinelli. Recognisable by its pointed-arch portal and decorative rose window, the church is now deconsecrated and abandoned: the building is unsafe and its interior cannot be visited.
