Sunset Aperitivo in Gaeta: The Terrace of Caffè del Professore on Montagna Spaccata

From Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September 2026, enjoy a sunset aperitivo in Gaeta overlooking Serapo beach: every evening from 18:00 to 20:00, Caffè del Professore opens its sea-view terrace on Via Santissima Trinità, on Monte Orlando, just a few steps from the Santuario della Montagna Spaccata.

The bar sits on the side of Monte Orlando facing Serapo: the beach lies below, with the town and the gulf stretching out ahead. Around this time of year, the sun sets at around 19:00, meaning the aperitivo hours capture both the warm pre-sunset glow and the vibrant colors that light up the sky immediately after.

What is on offer

A selection of cocktails and tiella, the traditional savoury stuffed pie from Gaeta. The aperitivo is pay-per-drink/order: prices have not been published.

Before the aperitivo: Montagna Spaccata

The bar is just steps away from the Santuario della Santissima Trinità, where you can descend into the cleft of Montagna Spaccata down to the Cappella del Crocifisso. A short walk away lies the Grotta del Turco. You can visit in the afternoon and end your day on the terrace: opening hours vary by season, so be sure to check the attraction pages before heading up.

On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, the area also hosts SU:Ggestiva: starting from 10:00, the sound installation “La Parola di Dio” by Riccardo Terlizzi at Montagna Spaccata, and on Sunday afternoon, concerts at Grotta del Turco, from 14:00 until the secret concert at 16:50. Admission is free with open access: after the music, head up to the terrace for the sunset.

By car, drive up along Via Santissima Trinità to the Parcheggio Santuario Montagna Spaccata (paid blue lines): it is small and fills up quickly around sunset, so arriving a bit early is recommended.
