Gaeta Street Guide: Key Areas and How to Find Your Way Around

How Gaeta is laid out, so you can find your way between the main districts:

• Lungomare Caboto: the main road, the town’s backbone, running along the whole gulf. It starts at the entrance to the town (coming from Formia or Naples), crosses the Peschiera district and the Borgo, and ends at the tip of Medieval Gaeta.
• Via Indipendenza: the heart of the historic Borgo. A long, narrow pedestrian street running parallel to Lungomare Caboto, lined with small shops, alleys and workshops. It links the Porto Salvo area (Chiesa degli Scalzi) towards the town centre.
• Corso Cavour and Piazza XIX Maggio: the modern, commercial centre of Gaeta, where the town hall is. This area is the hinge connecting the port side (Lungomare Caboto) with the beach side (Serapo).
• Via Marina di Serapo: the seafront road along the main beach (Serapo beach). It sits on the opposite side from the port and is lined with beach clubs.
• Medieval Gaeta (Sant’Erasmo): the old quarter at the far tip of the headland. Keep going straight along Lungomare Caboto to reach it. Here you will find the Angevin Castle, the Cathedral and the town’s nightlife.
• Via Flacca (northern entrance): the scenic road linking Gaeta to Sperlonga. It enters town on the Serapo beach and Piana di Sant’Agostino side.
• Monte Orlando: the nature park on the hill in the middle of town, physically separating Medieval Gaeta from Serapo beach.
